Here are the Bahamas Import Requirements for Bringing your Pet(s) to Eleuthera:
An import form must be completed and sent to the Bahamas Dept of Agriculture in Nassau with a $10 processing fee by money order or cash only (no personal checks are accepted), and $5 extra if you wish the permit to be faxed back to you to expedite. We recommend doing this at least a month prior to your trip--don't wait until the last minute for this if possible.
The pet must be age 6 months or older.
The animal must be accompanied by a health certificate that proves that the animal has been vaccinated against rabies within the time specified on the application, and the animal must be seen by a licensed veterinarian within 48 hours of arrival to the Bahamas (the Veterinarian will provide you with the signed Veterinarian Health Certificate if your pet meets requirements for travel). Bring your completed permit form you received from Nassau, your proof of vaccination records, and your Veterinary Health Certificate with you to the airport/boat which you will need to present for Customs for both arrival and departure in the Bahamas as wells as the the United States Customs area (or other residing or visiting country).
The permit you receive from Nassau is valid for up to one year from issue date , and is only valid for one entry. If you make other trips during the year, you will need to get a new permit for each trip.

Be sure to check the airlines in advance regarding pets. Some have restrictions and higher fares. Please also be aware of putting your pets in Cargo areas, particularly during warmer weather. We have found TwinAir from Fort Lauderdale to be one of the best pet friendly airlines for dogs under 50 lbs for flying into Eleuthera.
Be sure to ask in advance whether your Eleuthera vacation rental is pet friendly.
